Concord, formerly a large agricultural area, is the largest city in Contra Costa County, California. It has a population of 122,067 (2010 Census) and was founded in 1869 as the community of Todos Santos ("All Saints"). As a nod to its origins, the focal point of downtown Concord is Todos Santos Plaza, which encompasses an entire city block and is known for its farmers market, free summer concerts, and large number of surrounding restaurants. Suburban development surrounds the plaza. The birthplace of Jazz icon Dave Brubeck, the city hosts the annual Concord Jazz Fest.
Garbage collection in the City of Concord is provided by Concord Disposal Service. Concord Disposal provides three free on call pick up days per year for all Concord homeowners (single family residences). Concord homeowners can call anytime of the year to schedule the pickup. Concord Disposal will pick up to 10 bags or boxes of household garbage or yard debris not weighing more than 50 pounds each.
Each single-family household in Concord has one blue, 64 gallon wheeled recycling container, one green, 96 gallon wheeled yard waste container, and one brown, wheeled garbage container.
Beginning July 1, 2012, multi-family apartment complexes with five or more units are now mandated to recycle, per Assembly Bill (AB 341).
Many products in your home contain hazardous materials. It is illegal and unsafe to throw away household hazardous waste (HHW) in your garbage container, on the ground or down storm drains. If you need to dispose of any of these materials, Fast Haul can take them to Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility, which is designated to receive these materials. Please see list for examples of HHW.
Beginning July 1, 2012, commercial businesses that generate 4 cubic yards or more of solid waste per week are now mandated to recycle, per Assembly Bill (AB 341).
Concord Disposal now provides curbside collection service for electronic devices including those with cathode ray tubes (CRTs) such as computer monitors, televisions, scanners and some camcorders. The service is available for all Concord Disposal customers for a fee.
