Castro Valley is a census-designated place (CDP) in Alameda County, California, and the fifth most populous unincorporated area in the state. It has a population of 61,388 (2010 census). The town is bordered by Lake Chabot, San Leandro, and Hayward. As a do-it-yourself town, it has its own fire protection district and school district, but relies on the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office and the California Highway Patrol to provide police services. To date, all efforts to incorporate Castro Valley have been voted down by its residents.
Castro Valley Sanitary District contracts municipal solid waste collection, processing, and disposal services to Waste Management of Alameda County. Certain objects cannot be left for weekly garbage ore recycling pick-up.
Construction and Demolition materials
Castro Valley residents have three choices, 1) haul the objects themselves to the Davis Street Transfer Station or an alternate designated site for recycling (approved by CVSan, 2) hire a recycler or junk hauler to transport them to the recycling site, or 3) pay a Collection Fee and a Disposal Fee (charged per ton based on actual disposal costs) plus an administrative fee to have Waste Management collect the materials.
E-Waste includes: computer monitors, televisions and other electronic equipment should NOT be disposed of with garbage, recycling, or organics. The city recommends that working E-Waste be sold or donated and that non-working E-Waste be recycled at a proper facility.
