SAN LEANDRO

San Leandro, the neighboring city to Oakland, California, is a little bit of Andy Griffith’s “Mayberry”, a little bit Washington Irving’s Sleepy Hollow, and a great place to raise a family. Currently, the city has a population of 91,008 (per the 2020 census) and with its year-round moderate weather, a 450-berth marina, two golf courses, and a host of cultural and family-friendly events, the city enjoys its cozy, hamlet-like qualities, while being a short 30-minute drive to San Francisco.

Central to Alameda County, the city, once a long stretch of orchards, became famous during the late 1800s and early 1900s for its delicious cherries and in 1909, hosted its first Cherry Festival, which became an annual event.

If you are new to the area, Alameda County (which includes San Leandro), requires the separation of recyclable waste from garbage. However, not all recyclables may be accepted, without making additional arrangements and additional service charges.
